to discuss the life and work of an exceptional american, dr. sandy greenberg, who is here with us today in the senate gallery along with his wife sue and his sister brenda even as we speak. sandy in my view, is an honorary delawarean because he spends a month out of every year at one of our most beautiful delaware beaches, rehoboth beach. but he's much more than that, a successful businessman and if i than throw pivot -- philanthropist, he has a wide array of business interests. he's a pioneer in the use of technology and medicine and helped bring telemedicine to rural health care facilities as chairman of the rural health care corporation. he was appointed by president clinton to the board of the national science foundation. and as a young man, he took a break from his studies at columbia where he roomed with art garfunkel to work in the nixon white house. all of this makes a substantive, meaningful contribution to our country. but there is one thing i have not yet mentioned. at the young age of 19, sandy went blind. he lost his sight, and with that all likely hope of a successful comp

storm sandy. mastercard advisers and wells fargo reported spending by holiday shoppers trump sandy's impact on small businesses in november. the report says shoppers spent 5.2% more in small retailers in november than they did last year. the total u.s. retail sales increased 4 1/2% for the same period. >> apple has begun the early stages of a television set testing. that's the word from wall street journal this morning. kaukauna's collaborating with giant tax to test designs for a large screen high-resolution tv. apple has been testing television several times for a number of years. the testing comes after apple ceo them put hinted in an interview last month of the new tv product offering may be on the horizon. we will see what comes out of that. net flicks says they've learned which in that service provider is the fastest. they did this by tracking subscriber download speeds. net flicks ranked google fiber as a speedy as internet connection and the u.s. with average down mosby's of 2.5 mb per second. the bad as it is will fiber is only available in just one place right now kansas

had superstorm sandy that caused a disruption here in the northeast. for a while that propped up prices. that's gone. i worry if prices are declining is it because the economy is slowing? >> no, not necessarily. that certainly could be a factor. think back to 2008 when gas prices actually did crash and went under $2 a gallon. that would be a concerning sign if gas prices fell off a cliff like we're doing here with the economy if nothing is figured out. this is not a gas price crash. this is something normal this time of year. gas prices haven't declined so sigficacantly. we're still talking about prices well into the $3 a gallon range across much of country. in fact still we could be looking new all-time record high for christmas for the nationnl average. melissa: really? >> something off everybody's radar. we're talking about gas prices going down but we still have room to fall. today prices are still four cents higher than last year. we could talk about a national average that has never been higher on christmas. melissa: what do you expect to see between now and chris mass day?

, there is more than a compromise here. we know we have to rebuild the states that were ravaged by hurricane sandy. we know that the whole nation needs help. let's roll up our sleeves and send a clear message to our fellow americans in the rest of the country that we are prepared to go back to work. this is neither a democratic or republican issue. infrastructure is vitally important to everyone. it shouldn't take anything more than calling the bill up and voting on it. i think it the other issue that everyone agrees on is the whole issue with regard to the middle class tax cut. everybody, including billionaires', would get a $250,000 tax cut. why risk the uncertainty, why take people to this fiscal cliff during this holiday season when this could easily be addressed? then you can come back and haggle in january. no one has to break a pledge. as tom cole eloquently said, he is not raising anyone's taxes, he is preventing them from being raised on the middle-class. step up to the plate, send that message to the entire world that we are secure. long-term, i think we need to focus on health care cost
